Overview: June and Day are on the run from the Republic. They join a daring group with a plan to execute the new Elector - but who can they really trust?

This is the second book in the Legend series, and oh my word, it just gets better and better! I didn't fly through it like I did the first one but it was still one of those books where you think 'mmm...just one more chapter' and the continue reading for an hour longer than you planned to.

If you read my Legend review, you'll know that I much preferred Day to June, and I think that will always be the case, but June held her own better in this book. Her chapters are a lot more interesting than they were in the first book, to be honest they were more interesting than Day's, but Day is still more fun to read about (sorry June).

I think the book suffered a little from second book angst syndrome. Both Day and June constantly question their relationship and consider how ill suited they are for each other, which is annoying because this is the kinda book where you know they're going to end up together anyway so all the distractions are redundant. I loved Tess in the first book, but personally I felt she was reduced as a character here for the purpose of showing every single girl has a crush on Day. Even the random gay guy has a crush on Day. We get it, Day's hot, Marie Lu does not need to keep telling me this, as I was in love with Day since his first chapter anyway! Not gonna lie, I was hoping Tess/Eden were going to become a couple in the future? They are both small and cute! And how great would it have been if Tess and Day could have just had a sibling love for each other, instead of the predictability of her crushing on him. On the other hand, I enjoyed seeing how the relationship between June and Anden played out. Anden seems quite nice, and June did seem kind of attracted to him so maybe *plot twist* they will end up together? It seems more likely that they would than Tess/Day would, soz Tess.

Whereas the first book was about the Republic, this book showed us more of the Colonies and even hinted a bit at the rest of the world, so expect in the next book bigger powers could come into play. One thing I love about Marie Lu is that she can make me visualise what is happening so clearly, and it makes the scenes so exciting. The only problem I have with her description is that Day apparently has long blonde hair and blue eyes, I'm sorry but I just cannot picture him like that. He has curly brown hair and brown eyes okay! This is my fault not Marie's though, for some reason I keep projecting Leo Valdez onto his appearance.

One last thing to say: Marie did Kaede dirty in this book. Smh, she deserved better.

Obviously if you have not read the first book go read that first, and then definately pick this one up! I can't believe the amount of Goodreads people saying they DNFed, this series is amazing.
